In the story, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, written by James Thurber, Mr.Walter Mitty appeared to live in a life full of daydreams. Through his way to buying things for his wife, he starts to live in his imagination after he hear or see something on the street.
I think Walter Mitty's daydream reflected how he wants to become in the society. In his daydreams, Walter Mitty appeared to be a hero-like character, always achieve things that seems impossible to achieve, and the one that is needed by others. In contrast, Mr.Mitty appeared to be the one who always got bossed around by his wife and others in real life. So, this shows that Mr.Mitty actually want to escape from the restrictions and pressures that daily life gave him. I think this story is popular because it resonates with people, since everyone daydreams and be what they want to be in their dreams.
Story written by James Hurst, The Scarlet Ibis, presents a gratify yet sorrowful story of two brothers. The story describes how William Armstrong, who later be called as Doodle, grown up in the struggle of his disabled body condition that given since he born. Under his brother's influence, Doodle overcome many obstacles and limitation of his body. In an afternoon, a dying scarlet ibis was found in their yard that was not suppose to be appeared in that region. Even though Doodle already overcame many physical obstacles, he still cannot reached the goals that set by his brother, so his brother ran home under with disappointment without waiting Doodle that caught up behind him. His brother realize that Doodle didn't came back so he went back and see Doodle lying on the ground on the half way with bloods covering him. He started to realize that Doodle will never open his eyes again.
Overall, by looking at Doodle and that scarlet ibis that died in their yard, we can find many similarities in between. First of all both Doodle and that scarlet ibis are dead in red. The storm brought that scarlet ibis to main character's garden, so it's not live their originally. Just like the scarlet ibis, doodle cannot live like the normal children because of his body's disability, so these shows that the scarlet ibis and doodle are both not live like they should be. Thus, these are the similarity between scarlet ibis and Doodle.
In the great story, All Summer in a Day, written by Ray Bradbury, the author is describing a society on Venus, where there is constant rainstorms and where the sun only comes out every seven years. The story takes place in a school classroom on Venus. As the only one that remember how sun shines in the sky, Margot tell her classmates about how the sunshine glows on the Earth, but no one believe her words. Therefore, Margot becomes the one who gets isolated from the other classmates and locked in the closet. When the rain is about to stop and sun is about to appear, the teacher brings these children up to Venus’ surface to look at the sun, and the children just realized that they forgot Margot after Venus starts to rain again.
Throughout the story, we can see how these children are jealous of Margot just because they don’t remember what the sun looks like, and Margot knows more than they do. Also, I think the overall story presents a good observation about human nature. We can see this when Margot’s classmates are jealous of her unique experience and how “excited” these children act after they see the sun. I think the children’s chaotic excitement can also show us how people want to express their feelings in a repressed dystopian society. In conclusion, I think All Summer in a Day greatly represents several different aspects of human nature.
